Part one
Terms of use
These terms apply to the Saracens Hockey website and the Saracens Hockey Club app (together, "the site"). By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Who we are
The site is run by volunteers of the Saracens, a recreational hockey club with an A team and a B team in the CCRHL ("we", "us"). It is an unofficial, non-commercial fan and team site. It is not operated, sponsored, endorsed or reviewed by the CCRHL, DigitalShift, any rink, the NHL or any other organization named on it.
Stats, schedules and calculated content
Scores, schedules, standings, rosters and player stats come from the league's public stats pages, operated by DigitalShift. The site checks for updates on a schedule, so it can lag behind or differ from the official record.
- The league's official records always take priority over anything shown here. Don't rely on the site for game times, standings or eligibility; confirm with the league.
- Awards, trophies, badges, milestones, records, ratings (such as Impact, Clutch and the Ringer Danger Index), scouting reports, coaching notes and threat scores are calculated by us from that data. They are opinions and entertainment, not facts or official honours, and say nothing about anyone's character, skill, eligibility or conduct.
- Trophy names such as the Hart, Art Ross, Rocket Richard, Vezina, Calder and Conn Smythe are used only as playful labels for our own in-club awards. They are trademarks of their owners, and the site has no connection to the NHL.
- If you spot a mistake, tell us through the suggestions page and we'll fix it if we can.
Scouting and coaching pages
The scouting and Coach's Room pages are for team members and are protected by a password. Don't share the password, republish the reports, or use them to harass, single out or embarrass anyone. Reports describe how teams and players perform in public game data; references to players also playing in other divisions describe public league records and don't suggest anyone broke a rule.
Acceptable use
- Use the site for personal, non-commercial purposes connected to the team and the league.
- Don't scrape it heavily, overload it, probe it for weaknesses, get around passwords or logins, or access anything you weren't given.
- Don't use it to harass, threaten, impersonate or discriminate against anyone, or to post anything unlawful, hateful, sexual or misleading.
- Don't copy, sell or republish the site's content or data in bulk.
We can remove content, block access or close accounts that break these terms, at our discretion and without notice.
What you send us
When you send us something (a suggestion, a join request, a check-in, a note), you confirm you're allowed to share it and that it's accurate. You let us use it to run the team and improve the site, without payment. Ideas you suggest may be used freely.
Images you create
The site can make images of stats, trophies and lines for you to save and share. Share them respectfully. Images of other players' stats should be used to celebrate, not mock. The Saracens name and logo on those images stay ours; please don't alter them or use them commercially.
Our content
The Saracens name, crest, design, code, writing and graphics belong to the club and its creators. Other teams' and players' names belong to them and appear only to describe games and stats. Stats data remains subject to the league's and DigitalShift's rights.
Availability and changes
The site is free and run by volunteers. It may be unavailable, slow, out of date or changed or shut down at any time, and features (including check-ins and notifications) may stop working without notice. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
Part two
App & check-ins
Extra terms for the app, player accounts, check-ins, lines and notifications.
Player accounts
- Accounts are created by team admins for rostered players and subs. Usernames and passwords are given to you by an admin.
- Keep your password private and don't let anyone else use your account. You're responsible for check-ins made from it. Tell an admin right away if you think someone else has used it.
- Don't reuse a password from another service. If you do, it's at your own risk.
- Admins can change, suspend or remove an account at any time, including when someone leaves the team.
Check-ins, waitlists and lines
- Checking in ("In") tells the team you plan to play. It is not a guarantee of a spot, ice time, a position or a place in the lines.
- Spots, the waitlist, goalie spots, part-time game limits and lines are decided by team admins. Admins can move, add or remove anyone, and their decision is final.
- The check-in system is a convenience tool. It doesn't replace the team's own communication, the league's rules, roster requirements or game-day decisions. Confirm with your team if anything matters.
- Check-in closes at puck drop. Late drop-outs are shared with admins.
- Games played and limits are counted from league records, which can be incomplete or delayed.
Notifications
Push notifications are optional and only sent if you turn them on. You can turn them off in the app or your phone's settings at any time. Notifications can be late, missed or wrong; don't rely on them for game times or important team news.
Playing hockey
Ice hockey is a contact sport with a real risk of injury. Nothing on the site (including check-ins, lines, scouting or coaching notes) is medical, safety, fitness or professional advice. You play at your own risk and are responsible for your own health, equipment, insurance and conduct, and for following the league's and the rink's rules.
Part three
Privacy
We collect only what's needed to run the team, keep it to team organizers, and never sell it. We handle personal information in line with Canadian privacy law, including Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal PIPEDA.
Public game data
The site shows player names, jersey numbers, game results and stats that the league already publishes, and calculations we make from them. If you play for the Saracens and want your name removed, shortened or hidden on this site, tell us and we'll do it. We can't change the league's own records.
Player accounts and check-ins
For rostered players and subs, team admins keep a roster with your name, username, email, phone number, team status (full time, part time or sub, A or B team), positions and whether you're an admin. Your password is never stored in readable form: it is scrambled (hashed) before it reaches our server. When you use the app we store:
- your check-in answers (in, out, waitlist, goalie) and when you gave them;
- lines set by admins;
- a login token on your device so you stay signed in;
- a log of admin changes (who moved whom, and when);
- for security, a short record of failed login attempts by IP address.
Your name, positions and check-in status are visible to other logged-in players. Your phone number and email are visible only to team admins.
Notifications
If you turn on notifications, your phone's browser gives us a push address and encryption keys, plus your notification choices, team and the players you follow. If you're logged in, it's linked to your account so we can send reminders only for games you're in. Notifications are delivered through Apple, Google or Mozilla's push services. Turning notifications off deletes this record.
Forms
The join and suggestions forms collect only what you type in, such as your name, email, phone, position, experience and message.
How we use it
- to run check-ins, waitlists, lines and team communication;
- to send notifications you asked for;
- to reply to you and consider you for a roster spot;
- to keep the site secure and working, and to improve it.
We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't sell, rent or trade it.
Who it's shared with
Only team organizers and admins, and the service providers that make the site work: our web host, Google (Sheets and Apps Script for the roster, and Google Fonts), the push services above, and the tools that receive form entries. Some of them may store data outside Alberta or Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local law. We also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
- Roster and account details: while you're on the team, and removed when an admin takes you off the roster (past check-in history may be kept for team records for up to two years).
- Form entries: as long as they're useful, generally no longer than two years.
- Login attempts: about 15 minutes. Server logs: the short period our host keeps them.
Security
We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, restricted access and limited data. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll notify affected people and authorities as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or withdraw consent (for example, to stop notifications or close your account). Ask a team admin or use the suggestions page with a way to reach you. We'll respond within 45 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
Age
The CCRHL is an adult league. The site isn't aimed at children, and accounts are only for players 18 or older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we'll delete it.
Part four
Cookies & storage
No advertising trackers. The site saves a few things in your own browser so it works and remembers your settings.

Other services
- Hosting: our web host may set cookies or keep logs (such as IP address and time of request) it needs to deliver pages and keep them secure.
- Fonts: fonts load from Google Fonts, which shares your IP address with Google.
- Images: some images load from our media host.
- Analytics: if we add privacy-respecting analytics in future, we'll list it here first.
Managing them
You can clear or block site data in your browser settings at any time. The site still works, but it forgets your settings and logs you out of the app.
Part five
Legal
The fine print that protects the volunteers who run this.
No warranty
The site and everything on it is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, reliability, availability, fitness for a purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Saracens club, its organizers, admins, volunteers and creators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss or damage, including injury, missed games, lost spots, lost data or reputational harm, arising from using or not being able to use the site, relying on its content, check-ins, lines, notifications or anything a user posts. If liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the greatest extent permitted. The site is free, so our total liability is limited to zero dollars where the law allows.
Your responsibility
You agree to cover (indemnify) the club and its volunteers against claims, losses and costs arising from your use of the site, your content, or your breach of these terms or the law.
Third parties and links
The site links to and relies on others (the league, DigitalShift, map and calendar apps, Google, Apple and push services). We're not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
Takedowns and complaints
If you believe something on the site is wrong, infringes your rights or should come down, tell us through the suggestions page and we'll review it promptly.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Alberta, and we'll always try to sort things out informally first.
Everything else
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term isn't a waiver. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. You can't transfer your rights under them; we may transfer ours if the site changes hands.
